Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.
